Provide access to SBS application on a new user profile

New user requires access to SBS application already installed on a PC

There are situations where an SBS application is already installed on a PC or laptop and a new user profile that starts using the mentioned devices requires access to the installed SBS application. In such case, there is no need to install the required SBS application. Instead, we can simply import registry file on the new user profile.

The registry file for each SBS application is often located on the same server where Shireburn data is hosted, and it is usually found in the following path: \\"servername" or "ip address"\Shireburn\Installers\.

If the registry file for the required application is found, double-click on such file and press Yes when prompted:

In other cases, the registry file might be located in the Shireburn installation folder, C:\Program files (x86)\Shireburn\, in the respective application's folder. For example: WinSIMS for SIMS or SFM for SFM.

Once the registry file is imported, the next step is to set a shortcut for the required SBS application on the user profile's desktop. This can be done by navigating to the Shireburn installation folder located in C:\Program files (x86)\Shireburn\. Next, open the SBS application folder (example WinSIMS for SIMS or SFM for SFM) and create a shortcut for the application's executable file.

In cases where no registry file is found in either of the locations mentioned above, then one needs to export the registry file from a PC or laptop that already has the Shireburn installed and running by following these steps:

  1. Open Registry Editor
  2. Either from Start > Registry Editor; or press Windows Sign + R to open Run, enter regedit, and press OK (or Enter on the Keyboard)
  3. Navigate to the following path: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Shireburn
  4. Right-click on Shireburn registry key and press Export.

  5. Provide a name for the file to be exported and save it in a location which can be access from the other PC where it needs to be imported, such as file share where Shireburn data is located.
  6. Go to the PC where the registry file needs to be imported, double-click on exported file and press Yes when prompted.
If registry file has been imported correctly, then on application run (double-click on application shortcut set previously on the user's desktop) the user will be prompted with the login screen.

If error regarding the path not found pops up, kindly confirm that new user has Modify Permissions on the Shireburn data folder.
